What is a children's craniofacial surgeon?
Children’s craniofacial surgeons are a type of pediatric surgeon who specializes in treating differences involving the growth of a child’s head and facial bones. These surgeries may be both corrective and cosmetic in nature, depending on the specific condition. Our craniofacial surgeons use state-of-the-art surgical technology to treat these delicate areas. Ensuring each child receives the customized care they need.
If advanced care is needed, craniofacial surgeons work in collaboration with a team of expert subspecialists through UMMC’s Center for Maternal and Fetal Care. This multidisciplinary team works together to care for both the mother and child’s unique needs - all under one roof.
About children's craniofacial services
The Center for Maternal and Fetal Care draws on the Children's of Mississippi plastic and reconstructive surgery program to offer compassionate and comprehensive care for children with conditions that affect the bones of their head and face. With treatment needs ranging from minor to complex, hundreds of children visit UMMC's pediatric craniofacial program each year. A care coordinator works with the multidisciplinary team of craniofacial experts to ensure that children and their families receive the individualized attention they require. Surgery schedules are arranged to put the child under as little stress as possible.
